Tips on How to Look BOMB in Colored Hair

Wearing colored hair is something that anyone can do. No matter your skin tone, you can look BOMB in any color – forget what society says! With color comes so many shades, tints, and variations that there is a guaranteed shade that will fit you. It’s all about modifying that color to fit the undertone of your skin. With my tried and true tips that I am about to share with you, I guarantee that you’ll look stunning in any color of your choice.

Finding the Right Tone

From my experience, having the right tone of color makes a huge difference in how the color affects the overall look. What does the right tone mean? The right tone consists of a few things:

• The overall tone of the color (cool, neutral, or warm)
• How that color compliments your skin tone
• Is it ombre? If so, do all of the different tones of color compliment each other?

If you have the option of testing out the color before you commit to it, I would do that also. Testing out the color includes the following:

• If you are coloring the hair yourself, conduct a strand test to ensure its the right color you want before you commit to it.
• If you are purchasing a synthetic wig (refer to this guide for more deets), try it before you buy it. Some beauty supply stores offer the option to purchase a wig cap and try the wig on before purchasing. *For sanitary reasons, consult with your beauty supply store first.

The Fusion that Fits

Whenever I go out on a limb and try a new color, I use this simple tip to help me feel comfortable with such a new experience. That tip is to have a transitioning root to that color. Transitioning roots are simply the look of a darker color (typically black or a dark brown) that blends seamlessly with the hair color of your choice.

For instance, take a peek at my hair in this picture. The main color of this hair is similar to that of a penny – a coppery auburn color. To pair well with my olive undertone, I opted for a darker root which is more so of a reddish brown to complicate the main color.

Keep in mind that the color of the root often depends on the color that it is transitioning to. Black or brown roots are the more common and comfortable choices, but depending on your overall aesthetic, that isn’t the best choice. If you are going for more of a true ombre, then opting for a darker shade of the main color might be the best fit for you.

Customizing the Overall Aesthetic

Now comes the fun part – customizing the overall aesthetic. Blurring the line between hair and fashion, does your style compliment your new BOMB hairstyle?

The best way to find the perfect pairings for your new look is to go back to the basics – the simple color wheel. Take a peek at complementary hues and you’re already one step ahead to pairing the perfect fit. Denim, black, white, and nude are also tones that pair well with any hairstyle.

Lastly, your choice of accessories also compliments the look. If you hair is more warm-toned, go with gold. If your hair is more cool-toned, go with silver. These simple tips will have you looking amazing in any color of your choice.
